Queer Feminist Therapy for Everyone

Queer feminist therapy for everyone information sheet.

What is queer feminist therapy?

A queer feminist approach to counselling therapy is all about identifying and resisting “norms” that cause trouble in our lives. Whether it’s bisexual panic, feeling pressured to have sex, conforming to gender roles, or keeping up with “grind culture,” it can be a relief to talk about the societal expectations that we carry with us everyday. Queer feminist therapy helps you figure out what you want for your life and how to opt-out of all the other stuff. It is anti-oppressive, queer-affirming, and collaborative. Our conversations will prioritize how to resist stress and systemic oppression (sexism, racism, ableism, heterosexism, cisgenderism, classism, etc.) by taking rest, setting boundaries, and cultivating peace, joy, and community.

Queer feminist therapy is for everyone of all identities and intersections.

I am a university student. Are appointment fees for counselling therapy covered?

Counselling therapy appointments are $160. If you are a university student and you have opted-in to a student health plan, counselling therapy fees are usually covered for the “student year” (i.e. from September to end of August). The chart below shows the coverage of some Atlantic Canada university health plans (for domestic students) as of September 2024. Students in other provinces and international students can check with their university health plan provider.

Note: Psychotherapists and counselling therapists (RCTs) are considered as having the same scope of practice in Canada, so if your plan lists one it likely covers the other. These are considered different professions than psychologists and social workers. Registered Counselling Therapists (RCTs) are regulated by the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT).
